Raj D. Rao, MD

Dr. Rao is Associate Professor and Director of Spine Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Medical College of Wisconsin.

His special interests include degenerative conditions of the neck and back, spine trauma, tumors and deformity. He is currently involved in numerous research projects on spinal problems. Dr. Rao Is Chairman of the AAOS Diversity Advisory Board, is part of the AAOS Leadership Fellows Program, and also serves on the North American Spine Society Advocacy Committee. Dr. Rao is the editor of Complications in Orthopaedics: Spine Surgery and co-developer of the Orthopaedic Knowledge Online programs: Anterior Approaches to the Cervical and Cervicothoracic Spine and Anterior Approaches to the Thoracolumbar Spine. He has served on the faculty of numerous AAOS CME courses, and as moderator and faculty member of Instructional Courses at AAOS Annual Meetings.

Dr. Rao is a regular faculty member of the Spine Study Group. He is an Associate Editor of The Spine Journal, and a member of the Editorial Boards of The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Spine, and the Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques. His research has been presented in numerous scientific journals, book chapters, and presentations at national and international scientific meetings. Dr. Rao completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California. His fellowships include spine surgery atWilliam Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak,Michigan; a research fellowship in orthopaedic surgery at St. Josephs Hospital, London, Ontario, Canada; a research fellowship in spine surgery at Orthopaedische Klinik Seepark, Bremerhaven, Germany; and a research fellowship in orthopaedic surgery at Orthopaedic Hospital, Los Angeles, California.
