AAOS/OREF Traveling Fellowship Program (TFP)

Applicants must provide:

  • Traveling Fellowship Application which includes:
    • Personal/Contact Information
    • Educational Institutions
    • Current and Previous Employers
    • Research Activities
    • TFP Program Details (Up to 6 separate trips)
    • Personal Statement (500 words) including:
    • Statement of objectives for your fellowship year
    • Statement of potential impact on your career
    • Statement of potential impact on orthopaedics
  • Mentor Acknowledgment Form(s) and Mentor CV – The applicant must obtain approval of objectives from proposed mentor(s) and have him/her submit the signed Mentor Acknowledgement Form contained in this application by the September 15 due date, along with a copy of the mentor’s CV. Applicants must complete one of these forms for each TFP trip.
  • Letter of Support from applicant's Department Chair - The applicant must obtain a letter from his/her Department Chair stating their willingness to have the applicant participate in the fellowship and that the institution has or will provide support for the applicant's research. This letter is to be submitted with the application.
  • Applicant's CV.

Mentor Qualifications:

  • Mentors must be engaged in musculoskeletal research.
  • At least one of the mentors chosen must be an orthopaedic surgeon.
  • Must dedicate at least 25% of their time to research activities.
  • Conduct externally funded research activities.
  • Be familiar with the peer review grant submission and review.
