  • I recently completed my 3 month fellowship with Prof. Graf and his team at LKH Stolzalpe, which is a tertiary level, referral Orthopaedic Institute in the heart of Austria. I was greatly impressed by all the sub-specialty teams, which allow them to concentrate in the areas of their interest, and the usefulness of this system is evident from their results. I was immediately integrated into the hip and the knee teams and had the chance of assisting and interacting in a wide variety of surgeries with a sizeable number of arthroplasties. I definitely learned a lot of fine pointers in surgical technique and updated myself with the recent advances. - Dr. Hitesh C. Kubadia, Bombay, India

  • I appreciate the assistance provided by this website in arranging my visit at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, England. The Nuffield is a regional referral hospital caring for children and adults with complex orthopaedic conditions. The long history of excellence in research and training begun by Girdlestone, Trueta, and Duthie continues today. During my stay in Oxford, I was able to observe the gait lab and attended the weekly interpretation conferences. I toured the orthotic production facility and received an introduction to "evidence-based orthotics." I visited the pediatric clinics run by Tim Theologis and Michael Benson; the number and complexity of pediatric hip cases was remarkable. The conferences held for the registrars were lively and informative; the excellent tea afterwards was an enjoyable and humane touch. The interests of the numerous consultants were varied and I profited greatly from my discussions with them. - Desmond Brown, MD, Florida, United States

  • I was able to secure an accredited fellowship in Australia involving arthroscopy and joint reconstruction. It was, quite possibly, the best two years of my Orthopaedic training. The experience was initially offered to me for only six months in Adelaide but perhaps fate had it that I would travel to Darwin in the Northern territory of Australia. For the second six month stay, I explored the outback almost like a flying Orthopaedic surgeon. The facilities were technologically up-to-date in a background of a beautiful countryside and wildlife. My supervisor extended my stay for another year in South Australia. I not only learned hands-on about Orthopaedics but also learned about Australia’s unmatched hospitality and culture. - Benigno A. Agbayani, Jr., MD, Manila, Philippines

  • I was accepted for a three week experience in Peru from October 30 to November 22, 1998. I would like to reassure any prospective applicants that this is a very worthwhile experience as well as an adventure. Some of the most challenging and gratifying aspects of the trip included performing operations such as pelvic osteotomies and supracondylar fracture treatments without the benefit of a functioning image intensifier or even a good intraoperative x-ray. All of my time was spent in orthopaedics. All in all, it was a very worthwhile experience. I fully intend to go back to Peru. Thanks to this website for giving me this golden opportunity. - Lawrence A. Rinsky, MD, Stanford, CA, USA

  • I am a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon from the Great Wall Hospital from Beijing, China. With the help of this website, I was given an opportunity to complete my postgraduate orthopaedic education at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, TX, USA. This year in April, at the Chinese 4th National Conference of Pediatric Surgery, I introduced my Postgraduate Orthopaedic Education Experience arranged through this website for the observership at TRSH. I think that this website is an important service in orthopaedics and will result in greater knowledge in international orthopaedic patient care. - Zhang-ping Gu, MD, Beijing, China
