Welcome to the Orthopaedic Surgeons Disclosure Program
The Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Disclosure Program serves as a central repository of all relevant commercial relationships for orthopaedic surgeons involved in organizational governance, CME faculty, authors of enduring materials, and guidelines development. For the AAOS, mandatory disclosure applies to all participants in the AAOS governance structure including members of the Board of Councilors (BOC) and Board of Specialty Societies (BOS). The AAOS disclosure policy can be accessed online.
The disclosure information collected by this program can be searched and viewed by all AAOS Fellows and Members as well as AAOS staff.
For participating Orthopaedic Specialty Societies, designated staff are authorized to access the program. AAOS policy requires members of the AAOS Board of Directors and Guideline Development Workgroups to disclose certain financial information related to each disclosure of a conflict of interest. They are asked to provide a dollar amount for each conflict noted. A limited number of AAOS staff have been identified as requiring access to this detailed level of information, all other individuals may only see whether a potential conflict exists and, if so, with what entity.
The disclosure program has two primary purposes:
- Streamlining the disclosure process for orthopaedic surgeons involved in organizational governance and all formats of continuing medical education, from whom disclosure is required; and
- Increasing transparency throughout AAOS by making this disclosure program available to any AAOS member on the protected portion of the AAOS website.
For the purposes of any CME event or enduring program, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) requires any contributor to disclose conflicts of interest.
