The AANA/AAOS International Shoulder Arthroscopy Course will be held at
Louisianna State University (LSU) Health Sciences Center
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

The Academy would like to thank the Arthroscopy Association of North America for the many contributions made by its members in the production of this program. The Academy and orthopaedic specialty societies work together to provide orthopaedic surgeons with the highest quality educational programs and publications. This cooperative spirit among colleague organizations is an important resource and valuable asset for the orthopaedic community.

Hands-on instruction from a world renowned faculty This all day intensive hands-on course integrates new techniques and principles of arthroscopic surgery as applied to the care of shoulder patients. Course participants practice arthroscopic techniques on cadaveric specimens. Among other tasks, this skills course focuses on the latest techniques for arthroscopic management of rotator cuff, SLAP and arthroscopic bankart repairs. Held in the brand new LSU Health Sciences Center, the one day format allows course participants to concentrate on their own learning needs and work at their own pace while learning techniques and problem solving strategies from all course faculty.

This course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to:

  • Identify anatomical reference points and new portals for basic and advanced arthroscopic reconstruction techniques
  • Review principles of arthroscopic surgery
  • Practice arthroscopic bankart repair with inferior shift, posterior plication and remplissage and true rotator interval plication
  • Demonstrate SLAP repair with correct anchor placement and the use of additional portals for suture passage
  • Use advanced and simple techniques for suture and interference screw tenodesis through additional new portals
  • Apply release principles, including nerve releases, that facilitate repair of any size tear in the rotator cuff, including capsular releases, SGHL releases, coracohumeral release intra and extra articularly
  • Practice varied suture techniques such as double row, triple row, oblique and transverse convergence stitches that facilitate secure repairs
  • Demonstrate advanced arthroscopic techniques A-C and C-C ligament reconstruction, glenoid resurfacing and rotator cuff augmentation
Transportation
AANA and AAOS will provide bus transportation from a downtown New Orleans Hotel to the LSU Health Sciences Center. The bus will depart the downtown location at 6:15 AM sharp, Sunday morning. At the end of the course, registrants will be provided transportation back downtown. Prior to the course, you will be sent an e-mail with the departure location.

Request for a refund must be received in writing in the Academy Office (AAOS, 6300 North River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018-4262) by December-31-2010. In all instances a cancellation fee will be charged. Beyond these dates, no monetary refunds will be issued. Instead, the tuition amount, less cancellation fee, will be credited toward another AAOS course within one year.

The Academy reserves the right to cancel a course thirty (30) days prior to the course date. Any person who has registered for the course will be notified by email and/or certified mail at the address noted in the AAOS member database. A telephone call will also be made to each registrant for whom a number is available. Persons whose registration is received after a course is cancelled will be notified by telephone, email or mail. Registration fees will be refunded in full. However, other costs incurred by the registrant, such as airline or hotel penalties are the responsibility of the registrant.
