Participation Requirement:
    Participants in Academy surgical skills programs must have completed or be currently enrolled in a residency program accredited by either the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). Surgeons from outside of the United States are required to have similar residency program credentials.

The Academy would like to thank the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons for the many contributions made by its members in the production of this program. The Academy and orthopaedic specialty societies work together to provide orthopaedic surgeons with the highest quality educational programs and publications. This cooperative spirit among colleague organizations is an important resource and valuable asset for the orthopaedic community.

Explore evolving treatment options, including the indications, surgical techniques, and complications of partial and complete humeral resurfacing, hemiarthroplasty, total shoulder arthroplasty, and reverse shoulder arthroplasty in this dynamic, hands-on skills course. Topics and techniques include discussions of potential shoulder Arthroplasty complications, and ways to avoid them. In addition, participants will review the clinical and radiographic characteristics of glenohumeral arthritis.

This course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to:

  • Evaluate patients with shoulder arthritis and formulate a treatment plan
  • Compare and contrast surgical indications for total shoulder Arthroplasty
  • Acquire technical consideration in hem-arthroplasty for fractures.
  • Gain an understanding of the appropriate application of reverse shoulder Arthroplasty, humeral head resurfacing, biologic resurfacing and partial joint replacement
  • Apply contemporary strategies for infection control
  • Apply contemporary strategies for pain management
  • Discuss complications of shoulder Arthroplasty and gain an appreciation of how to avoid them.

Request for a refund must be received in writing in the Academy Office (AAOS, 6300 North River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018-4262) by November-05-2010. In all instances a cancellation fee will be charged. Beyond these dates, no monetary refunds will be issued. Instead, the tuition amount, less cancellation fee, will be credited toward another AAOS course within one year.

The Academy reserves the right to cancel a course thirty (30) days prior to the course date. Any person who has registered for the course will be notified by email and/or certified mail at the address noted in the AAOS member database. A telephone call will also be made to each registrant for whom a number is available. Persons whose registration is received after a course is cancelled will be notified by telephone, email or mail. Registration fees will be refunded in full. However, other costs incurred by the registrant, such as airline or hotel penalties are the responsibility of the registrant.
