Build your skills in providing expert witness testimonyThrough a series of lectures and interactive discussion, this half-day course helps you better understand your role in med-mal litigation and develops your skills in chart review, deposition, and testimony. You’ll begin by reviewing the various medicolegal issues and the roles of all parties involved. Then focus on the testimony through an approach using panel discussions,mock trials, and a “court room” experience. These sessions highlight both direct and redirect testimony emphasizing the unique demands placed on the orthopaedist.<.br>
This course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to:
- Evaluate the merits of a med-mal case
- Prepare expert witness testimony based on evidence-based literature
- Understand the 'standards of evidence' used by judges
- Apply the AAOS Professional Compliance Program and Standards of Professionalism to activities involving expert witness testimony

Request for a refund must be received in writing in the Academy Office (AAOS, 6300 North River Road, Rosemont, IL 60018-4262) by October-21-2010. In all instances a cancellation fee will be charged. Beyond these dates, no monetary refunds will be issued. Instead, the tuition amount, less cancellation fee, will be credited toward another AAOS course within one year.
The Academy reserves the right to cancel a course thirty (30) days prior to the course date. Any person who has registered for the course will be notified by email and/or certified mail at the address noted in the AAOS member database. A telephone call will also be made to each registrant for whom a number is available. Persons whose registration is received after a course is cancelled will be notified by telephone, email or mail. Registration fees will be refunded in full. However, other costs incurred by the registrant, such as airline or hotel penalties are the responsibility of the registrant.
