Surgeons from outside of the United States are required to have similar residency program credentials.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons designates this educational activity for a maximum of 18.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. This intensive surgical skills course brings you up-to-date on the recent advances in evaluating and treating wrist injuries. Through hands-on training, panel discussions, lectures, and video, you will explore new techniques and surgical approaches to apply to your cases – giving patients early motion, accelerated rehabilitation, and faster return of function.

The surgical skills lab will include a wide variety of distal radius fracture implants so you can compare products from multiple manufacturers. There will be real cases presentations in which faculty had trouble as well as a panel where you get to challenge the faculty!

This course is designed to give you the knowledge and skills to:

  • Apply technical skills in a wide variety of fixation options for treatment of distal radius fractures
  • Identify indications and contraindications for volar, dorsal and combination plating techniques for distal radius fractures
  • Identify and explain the relevance and function of the intercarpal ligaments, including the radioscaphocapitate, the long and short radiolunate, the scapholunate, and lunatotriquetral ligaments
  • Apply the technical skills for antegrade and retrograde scaphoid fixation.
  • Analyze and classify the types and the treatment of DRUJ and distal ulna injuries.
  • Demonstrate the options for treatment of select complications of wrist injuries.
  • Formulate an algorithm for the post operative management of patients with wrist injuries.
  • Differentiate the treatment algorithms for distal radius and carpal fractures in the pediatric patient
