2011 Annual Meeting Practice Management Symposium for Practicing Orthopaedic Surgeons Course #152

Tuesday, February 15, 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM

San Diego Convention Center, Room 29

Fundamental changes in the healthcare industry require that orthopaedic surgeons learn how to run their businesses efficiently and effectively. Previous symposia have provided attendees with concrete strategies for generating more revenue and for managing overhead. This year’s event focuses on an equally important topic: How to work cooperatively with third parties to ensure you have a steady flow of patients.

Patients are the lifeblood of your practice, so how do you ensure a steady stream of them? You need to work with several very different groups.

  • First, there are your referring doctors. The role of these gatekeeper doctors is changing and you need to understand the new rules.
  • Second, there are public and private insurers. Under healthcare reform, payors’ criteria for executing physician participation agreements are likely to change.
  • Third are hospitals, whose increasing influence given the HITECH Act should not be underestimated.
  • Fourth, there are area employers, who are implementing diverse strategies to help their employees maintain their musculoskeletal health.
  • Finally, there is your own practice staff. Actions they take can have a major impact on who decides to turn to you for medical care.
The 2011 Practice Management Symposium will feature presentations by representatives from these key groups, all of whom are in a position to steer patients toward your practice. Speakers will discuss strategies and initiatives they are developing in this regard. Panel discussions will focus on how you can pro-actively work with representatives of these groups. Pointcounterpoint” discussions and active audience participation in problem-solving breakout groups will be key elements of this educational experience.

Faculty will include orthopaedic surgeons, healthcare industry executives, practice executives, and practice management consultants. Thomas Grogan, MD, and Michael Freehill, MD, will serve as course co-directors. The registration fee for AAOS Members and their administrative staff is just $379 per person.

Note: The fee for physicians who are not AAOS members is $499 per person. Orthopaedic practice executives and other office administrative staff, as well as non-member physicians, will also need to register for the Annual Meeting and pay the appropriate fee. Sign up early – last year’s event was a sell-out.

An alphabetical listing of disclosures will be available at a later time.
