Free Maintenance of Certification Course

Maintenance of Certification Curriculum - Tuesday, March 9th

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) with support from the Orthopaedic Research Society is pleased to present this curriculum to assist you in understanding the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) requirements. This complimentary curriculum begins with a one hour lecture on the basics of MOC followed by four one hour breakout sessions that are repeated to allow you to take two of the four breakout sessions. Please note, registration for the introductory session is required.

1:30 – 2:30 PM – LECTURE MOC
Introduction to Maintenance of Certification: The Basics

Joseph A. Bosco, III, MD

This lecture will cover strategies important to taking a multiple choice test and also provide details on taking a computerized examination.

2:45 – 3:45 PM BREAKOUT SESSIONS
Statistics

Richard L. Lieber, PhD

Presents the principles of experimental design and statistics in the novel format of an interview with a renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon. In this fun format, direct questions will be used to motivate the issues of design, power and sample size.

Basic Science: Biomechanics
Timothy Wright, PhD

Provides knowledge and analytical skills in basic concepts governing the biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system. The emphasis will be on understanding the mechanical influence of disease and trauma and to apply mechanical principles to treatment choices.

Ethics and Professionalism
Joseph A. Bosco, III, MD

Covers the four canons of medical ethics and present scenarios in which these canons guide a physician in determining the best way to deal with ethical dilemmas.

Basic Science: Biology
Linda J. Sandell, PhD

Provides knowledge and analytical skills in basic concepts of biology. Emphasis on the influence of disease and trauma as well as treatment.
