Multimedia Peer Review Criteria
Submissions will be accepted for any program that has been developed for educational use. Programs may include educational DVDs, CD-ROMs, educational web-sites, or CBT projects. Straightforward computer generated slide presentations would not meet these criteria.
- Complete. All entries have to be complete programs or applications, no drafts, demonstrations or unfinished program are accepted.
- Useable. Programs should have a thoughtfully designed end-user interface. This aspect of design affects users perception of the product, what they can do with it and how completely it engages them. Programs should be easy to use or easy to learn.
- Engaging. The program should be appealing. Appropriate use of audio and moving video segments can contribute greatly to user’s motivation to work with the medium.
- Interactive. Programs that involve participatory tasks make the program meaningful and provoke thought. Unidirectional (teacher to student sponge lecturing) should be avoided.
- Relevant. Clinical content is pertinent to for the intended audience and is supported by evidence and references.
- Tailorability. Programs which allow users to configure them and change them to meet particular individual needs contribute well to the quality of the educational experience.
- Pace. Programs should provide as much control as possible to the learner. Programs that are self-paced are better than those that control the pace.
- Visual. Programs that are visually rich are preferred to programs that are wordy.
- Organized. Programs that are well structured are preferred.
- Context. Programs should recognizes that learning is context sensitive. Appropriate context should be included.
- Transparency. The objective of the program should be readily apparent.
- Adaptive. Programs that adapt to the users knowledge can provide a higher level learning experience.
- Elegance. Programs that present what they need to present...and no more.
